01 / Calculator guide
What grade did I get from my points?
Add earned and possible points for completed assignments. The combined percentage weights each assignment by its point total. Decimal marks support partial credit. Turn on extra credit only when your course allows earned points to exceed possible points.

Grade calculator by points: assignments to a percentage
This grade calculator with points lets you calculate grades based on points, the way many teacher gradebooks do. Add the points earned and available for each completed assignment. The calculator adds the points before dividing; it does not average assignment percentages. Larger assignments therefore carry more weight.
03 / Calculation method
Points-based grade formula
Grade percentage = Total points earned ÷ Total points available × 100
04 / Worked example
Example: 18/20 and 42/50
These two assignments total 60 points earned out of 70 available. Your grade is 85.71%. Averaging 90% and 84% would give 87%, which is incorrect for a points-based course because the second assignment is worth more.

06 / Assumptions & limits
Extra credit and ungraded assignments
Enable extra credit to allow earned points above the available points on an assignment. This may produce a grade above 100%. Every row still needs positive available points. Omit ungraded assignments; include a zero only when it is an actual recorded score.
07 / Calculator guide
Partial credit is supported
Use decimals for partial marks, such as 17.5 out of 20. For equal whole-question tests, the homepage easy grader is faster and includes a complete wrong-answer chart.
Key terms explained
Earned points
Marks received across included assignments.
Available points
The maximum base marks for those assignments.
Extra credit
Bonus earned points above the base maximum.
References and calculation notes

Divide all earned points by all available points and multiply by 100. For 60 out of 70 points, the result is about 85.71%.
Can I enter partial points?+
Yes. Both earned and available points can use decimals. Available points must be greater than zero.
Why is my grade different from the average of my percentages?+
A points-based system weights each assignment by its available points. A 100-point project contributes more than a 10-point quiz.
What about extra credit with zero available points?+
Add the bonus points to the earned total of an existing assignment. Zero-denominator rows are rejected; check that your school applies bonus points in this way.
What is 115 points out of 150 as a grade?+
115 ÷ 150 × 100 = 76.67%, which is a C on both the standard 10-point and plus/minus scales.
How many points do I need for an A?+
Multiply the total points available by your A cutoff. With 450 points available and an A at 90%, you need 405 points. Subtract what you have already earned to see what is left to get.
Do bigger assignments count more in a points grade?+
Yes. The total-points method weights each assignment by its points possible, so a 100-point project moves your grade ten times as much as a 10-point quiz.
How do I add extra credit?+
Turn on extra credit and enter the bonus points as earned points. Your grade can then go above 100%. Check whether your teacher adds the bonus to the total possible as well, because that changes the result.
