Can I reach my target GPA?
Enter your course grades and credit hours, include your earlier GPA and completed credits, then set a target and future credits. The calculator estimates the future GPA required. A target above the selected scale is mathematically out of reach under those inputs; course-repeat and institutional rules may change the official result.

Semester GPA calculator: one term at a time
Add courses, select a letter grade and enter credit hours. Courses with more credits contribute more to your GPA. Add earlier GPA and credits to include previous study. Use it as a term GPA calculator (some schools say sem GPA calculator): enter one semester’s courses and it works as a GPA calculator for semester grades.

Compute GPA online in three steps
Add each course with its letter grade and credit hours.
Add earlier semesters, or your previous GPA and the credits behind it.
Read your semester GPA, your overall GPA and the GPA you need for a target.

How to calculate GPA
GPA = Total quality points ÷ Total GPA credits
05 / Worked example
Two courses, one GPA
An A in a 3-credit class earns 12 quality points. A B in a 4-credit class earns 12 more. Your GPA is 24 ÷ 7 = 3.43.
06 / Assumptions & limits
Follow your institution’s policy
The default scale uses A− = 3.7 and B+ = 3.3. The 4.33 option changes A+ only. P and W are excluded from GPA credits here. Percentage conversions are estimates using a scale you define; they are not universal.

A GPA calculator from grades, on the 4.0 scale
This is a GPA calculator from grades: you choose letter grades, not percentages, and it uses the standard GPA calculator 4.0 scale, or 4.33 if your university gives an A+ more than an A. Any university GPA calculator follows the same rule, quality points divided by credits, which is why this GPA grade calculator shows both numbers for every course.

Why semester averages cannot always be averaged
A 4.0 semester with 6 credits and a 3.0 semester with 18 credits combine to (24 + 54) ÷ 24 = 3.25, not 3.5. Include credit totals whenever you combine previous study.

Repeated courses and exclusions
This model includes the courses you enter. It does not infer repeat replacement, forgiveness, transfer-credit exclusions, or academic-standing thresholds. Consult your registrar before comparing the estimate with an official transcript.
Key terms explained
Quality points
Grade points multiplied by course credits.
Cumulative GPA
Combined quality points divided by all included GPA credits.
Credit hours
The numerical weight assigned to each course.
References and calculation notes
These references explain the underlying mathematics or policy context. Use your institution’s or provider’s rules for official decisions.
Yes. Enter your desired cumulative GPA and future credits. The result shows the future GPA required and whether it is possible on your selected scale.
Can I save my courses?+
Save on device keeps your semesters in this browser. Export CSV gives you a portable copy. Shared links can include course names and grades; review them before sharing.
How do I calculate GPA from percentage grades?+
Convert each percentage to a letter grade using your school's scale, then use the letter here. There is no universal percentage-to-GPA formula; see our grading scale page for the common scales.
Does an A+ count as 4.0 or 4.33?+
It depends on your school. Most US colleges cap an A+ at 4.0, but some use 4.33. You can choose either scale in the calculator.
How are pass/fail and withdrawn courses treated?+
P (pass) and W (withdrawn) grades are left out of the GPA, as most schools do. An F counts as 0 points with its full credits.
How do I check my GPA on Canvas?+
Canvas usually shows course grades but not a GPA. Copy each final letter grade and its credits into this calculator to get your semester and cumulative GPA.
Is semester GPA the same as cumulative GPA?+
No. Semester GPA covers one term. Cumulative GPA covers every term so far, weighted by credits. This calculator gives your semester GPA and, if you add past semesters, an overall figure; the cumulative GPA calculator is built for the full record, including the GPA you need next term.
